Everyone has at least once been at the position of the job applicant who was struggling to be noticed by the dream employer. Do you remember the ‘Google, please hire me video’? Well, yes! Nowadays the labor market is that harsh. You have to be really smart and outstanding to receive an invitation for a job interview and when it happens, the feeling is almost like winning from the lottery.

Volen Vulkov realized the importance of the personal branding while applying for a part-time IT job during his Erasmus year in Germany. Volen was really satisfied with his latest resumes and one late evening he decided to show it to George. He instantly saw a great potential for a business and encouraged Volen to start helping people build their own fancy resumes. That was the moment when the idea for Enhancv was born.

We met Volen and George and asked them a few questions. See what they shared with us:

How did you meet and what made you think you are the right team to do the job?

George: Me and Volen met each other at the Start It Smart entrepreneurship club and have participated in a lot of projects together before deciding to start Enhancv. We’ve done a great deal of research and prototyping before applying for Eleven. That was the moment when our third co-founder Dimitar Vouldjeff joined the team. He is our wonder kid. He has won numerous olympiads and has extraordinary skills in coding and not only. He is even greater in pitching and helped us a lot for winning Eleven’s funding. The other guys joined the team at a later stage when we felt the need of a data scientist, design wizard, and a code ninja. It’s a great pleasure working with them as everyone has tremendous skills and potential.

What are the biggest challenges you are facing right now?

For those 3 months we’ve been putting all our efforts in creating a user friendly tool that provides everything that you need to build quickly and easily a resume that makes you proud of yourself. At the moment we are trying to reach more people and extend the number of users not only for the free edition but also for the paid one which gives more design opportunities, tips, tricks, and resume reviews to the applicants. Our platform is trying to stimulate the users to think in details for their working background by giving them specific examples and thus reminding them for the important little things that make a bigger impact.

What motivates you to do it?

George: Initially I wasn’t so excited about the whole idea as I didn’t feel it so close to me. But I was sure that we will succeed in selling it as there was such a great demand. When we started with Eleven one of our most powerful and interesting workshops was about design thinking. They taught us how to make user journeys, how to make different personas for our various target groups. This helped me realize that we are not just in the resume building business. On the contrary we are helping people develop their potential and achieve self-realization. That was the moment when I became more determined. The other thing that motivates me is the team.
Volen: I’ve been always keen on the idea to sell my personal brand the best way and that triggered my motivation in the beginning. Later on when we started meeting people I found out that our product is really boosting people’s confidence. I’ll never forget one of my roommates whom I’ve asked to fill out a short questionnaire at the earliest stage of Enhancv. He returned it with doubled or even tripled content and he even wanted to add more details to it. He was really inspired and motivated. I will never forget the smile on his face. That made me think that we help people dig their potential out of the cupboard.

How are you going to change the world? What’s the magic behind your startup?

George: Everybody has a talent but not everybody do realize it and my dream is to help people find their potential by themselves.
Volen: Nowadays the recruiting market is totally not working. While everyone is focused to bring more applicants to the companies and rate them through various software solutions, we are power-changing the first step of the application process – how the applicants “sell” themselves for the specific position they are applying to.

Your biggest success so far?

Certainly the team.

How do you foresee your company in 3 years? 10 years?

For now we are putting all of our efforts to polish the already existing services that Ehancv provides and for the future we’ll definitely develop and try to include all aspects of the recruitment process.

Why have you started in Bulgaria? Do you need to move to succeed?

Volen: In my opinion Bulgaria offers us an opportunity to reach everyone that we need as we have already build strong networks here. Moreover in Bulgaria there is always a conscious group of people who is ready to help you. What may be a barrier is the skepticism that the foreigners have about the idea that Mrs Georgieva for instance (a person from Bulgaria) will revise their resumes.
George: Yeah, but that will be easily overcome with several successful stories of people who have been hired at distinguished companies with our help. We are working on this now.
