History

Rails Girls happend for the first time at the end of 2010 in Finland, as a single workshop, targeted at women, however, the interest appeared to be huge and the idea quickly slipped over the world. Now there are events in cities all over the world. The actual number is several hundred such events worldwide. Here is a map which is a good guide for you to see what happens: http://rails-girls-map.herokuapp.com/

In Sofia, this event was first organized in 2013. The event took place in Betahaus and there were about 60 participants and 20 instructors.

On 8 March, the event was organized for the second edition with 70 participants and 35 instructors (two participating instructor for maximum effect). The organization had nearly 400 applications and after this second edition organized and regular weekly meetings with those who want to continue in overtime the organizers formed Rails Girls Study Group.

What is the motivation of the event?

The event aims to create a friendly atmosphere, where it is easier for women to dare to try to overcome the prejudices imposed by society that this is primarily a man’s job. The aim is to show and that there are others like them, they are not alone and that there are many people (instructors) who are willing to explain to them eagerly. Goal is to create a community and network of contacts where you can develop later.

The registration for the event is closed. But good news is that some of the girls will receive free tickets to the Startup Conference NEXT 2014 on 10-11 October in Sofia.
